We are pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our paid staff: Elizabeth Flynn. Elizabeth holds a B.A. in Art History and Administrative Studies from the University of California, Riverside. She comes to us from the Huntington Library, where she assisted with program coordination and execution. She’ll be doing similar things here at the Homestead, but will also play a role in developing, improving, and rethinking public programs. Assisting with marketing and outreach efforts are additional areas of focus. Welcome, Elizabeth!

What made you pursue a career in the museum field?
I have always had a love for art and history, and museums provided me with a place to explore those two subjects as a young child and teenager. In college I explored the possibility of working in different types of museums through internships and volunteer work, and through those experiences I learned that museum education was my true passion. I am very excited to be here at the Homestead!
Who are some of your favorite audiences to work with, and why?
I love working with all different kinds of audiences, but I particularly like working with young children. I have a background of working as a tutor and teaching assistant for preschool and elementary-aged children, and I’ve always had a lot of fun working with those age groups. The curiosity and pure enjoyment that kids get from the programs I have been involved in is what makes working in the museum field truly worth it.
What do you enjoy most about working with the public?
I enjoy meeting and interacting with all of the different types of people! I love the one-on-one personal interactions that museums and public programming provide. To me, connecting with the public and forging relationships is one of the most important roles a museum plays in its community, and I enjoy being a part of that. Through working with the public, I have met so many interesting people from many different backgrounds and walks of life.
What are you most excited about taking on in your new position?
I am most excited about being involved in the public programming here at the Homestead. The classes and festivals that are offered here seem great, and I’m excited to be involved. I am also excited to bring new ideas to the Homestead in regards to programming. Museum education is such a dynamic, ever-changing field, and I am excited to bring new ideas to the already great programming here!
What is the most unique talent or skill you bring to the Homestead?
I am an avid crocheter and crafter, so don’t be surprised if you see holiday-themed decorations at my desk or glitter, yarn, and confetti mysteriously strewn about the Homestead!
